Court in Brief

The following cases were recently finalised at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court:

Murder
Nkosiphendule Mfundisi (32) from Joe Slovo informal settlement was sentenced to 15 years behind bars for murder, on March 28.

He pleaded guilty on September 26 last year and was found guilty on March 27.

On March 4, 2018, Mfundisi killed Charles Obakeng in Joe Slovo.

Magistrate Ramufhufhi presided and prosecutors Fyfe and Motala represented the State.

Tampering with essential infrastructure
Antonio Malwalwa (22) from Angelo informal settlement was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for tampering with essential infrastructure, on March 23.

He pleaded not guilty on May 12 last year and was found guilty on March 23.

On December 18, 2019, he cut copper cables in Boksburg.

Magistrate Ramufhufhi presided and prosecutors Fyfe and Motala represented the State.

Housebreaking
Augustos Fernando Nhamane (40) from Johannesburg was sentenced for housebreaking with the intent to steal and being in the country illegally.

He pleaded not guilty to count one (housebreaking) and guilty to count two (contravention of the Immigration Act) on March 6. He was found guilty of both charges on March 23.

On May 27, 2021, he broke into a Cell C shop at the East Rand Mall and stole three cellphones. It was also discovered the Mozambican resident is in the country without valid documentation.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, suspended for five years for count one and one year behind bars for count two. The sentence for count two will run concurrently with the sentence for count one.
