Woman tries to bribe her ‘cable thief’ boyfriend out of jail
The four suspects will appear at the Boksburg Magistrate's Court, on April 14.
Three men were caught in possession of suspected stolen copper cables and aluminium weighing 26kg on April 13.
One of the suspects’ girlfriends was also arrested after she allegedly tried to bribe police officers.
According to the Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga, officers conducting a stop-and-search operation in Main Reef Road near Ulana informal settlement pulled over a suspicious silver Mitsubishi Triton bakkie.
The bakkie bore the name of a security company believed to be appointed by the metro to protect energy infrastructure.
“Upon searching the vehicle, officers found the suspected stolen goods and the occupants of the vehicle failed to give satisfactory answers about the ownership of the goods.
“They were arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen copper cables,” explained Msimanga.
“A woman believed to be one of the suspect’s girlfriends, arrived at the police station and offered officers R2 000 for his release.”
She was arrested and charged with trying to bribe police officers. The suspects were scheduled to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on April 14.
