Sector Four CPF keeps slashing away at crime

The Boksburg SAPS Sector Four CPF members, who cleaned up an identified crime hot spot in Comet Village last year, redid the exercise and extended their efforts to another crime hot spot, the Kanana informal settlement, on February 28.

One of the members, Patrick Mjoli, said crime incidents appeared to cease after they first cut the overgrown area in Comet Village, but they noticed a resurfacing of robbery incidents, and that is why they again took action.

“Robberies continue here. Two weeks ago, a woman was robbed and a school child was nearly raped recently. Today, while here to cut the area, we saw three suspicious boys. When we approached them, they ran away,” he said.

“We are still appealing for donations of grass-cutting and safety equipment, as we mentioned last year. These include slashers, pangas, torches, pepper spray, shovels, chainsaws, weed killer and grass trimmers.

“We definitely will welcome more hands to help us. In fact, any support from the public when we hold initiatives like this.

“It is unfortunate that we had a bad experience trying to work with the community today. Nobody came to assist us after we appealed to them when we arrived.”

He added that the community members must remember that crime can be defeated when everyone works together.

Another member of the CPF, Doctor Moshoma, who led the latest clean-up in the Kanana informal settlement, said the area is ravaged by crime.

“Cutting the vegetation and clearing the area will give criminals nowhere to hide. In most cases, the robbers use the overgrown vegetation to hide from their victims, so we want to put an end to that,” explained Moshoma.
