Families of murdered friends losing hope in the police

The families of best friends Tshepiso Ntomane (40) and Retshedisitse Phatswane (31), who were found dead near the Rooikraal Landfill site on January 3, last year, are losing hope in the police.

Tshepiso’s sister, Seipati Ntomane, said she hasn’t heard anything from the police since the murders.

“Our hearts are still pained by the tragedy and what makes matters worse is that the police are not updating us about developments in the case. We have not even seen the postmortem results to this day.

“The family is also living in fear because we don’t know what the killer or killers are planning to do now. I believe someone may have seen the perpetrators. The police need to do their work and investigate to find the killers,” said Seipati. I don’t believe police are doing enough.”

The father-in-law of Retshedisitse, Julius Tshikume, said he would hire private detectives to investigate the case if he could afford to.

“I have never seen any police officer in my yard since the murders. If the police were serious about finding the murderers they would work with us as the family of the deceased. We are starting to believe that the police don’t care about the case,” said Tshikume.

He said the girls left home at 22:00 that fateful day and were heading to Windmill Park.

“The police need to trace the girls’ movements on that day. Surely there was also evidence of some nature on the crime scene.”

Dawn Park police spokesperson Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula said the detective is following up on several leads.

“We hope that the suspect(s) will be apprehended soon. Community members should come forward if they have any information, no matter how insignificant they think it may be,” said Mabula.
