Boksburg North police officers to up their skills

The officers will be doing different training programmes, depending on their level of skills.

Boksburg North police officers will have the opportunity to enhance their skills at Elite Firearms And Training every Wednesday, free of charge, starting from October 26.

According to the owner of Elite Firearms, Davey Gates, this comes after the murders of Boksburg North police officers, Sergeant Vusimuzi Batsha (45) and Constable Khotso Malahlela (29), when they responded to a complaint of unnatural death on the corner of Main Reef Roads and Field Street on October 13.

They were accosted by three men, shot dead and robbed of their firearms and bulletproof vests.

Gates explained the training sessions are aimed at boosting their firearm skills. Elite Firearms is sponsoring firearms and ammunition for the training.

“Police officers are on the frontline of danger and should be shooting regularly to become more efficient.”

He added the police officers who want to take part will be doing different training programmes, depending on their level of skills.

The programme can include dry fire drills and scenario-based shooting.
“It is just to get them to be more proficient,” he explained.

Boksburg North SAPS DFO commander Warrant Officer Jaco van der Mescht thanked Gates and Elite Firearms on behalf of the station and DFO office.
“We appreciate them assisting us to improve our skills so that we can look after ourselves and the community.”
