Woman cuffed at roadblock for unlicensed gun

The woman was arrested during a routine search.

The Benoni Flying Squad apprehended a woman found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at the Atlas Road on-ramp to the N12 on October 17.

According to BFS spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, officers were conducting a vehicle checkpoint when a white Ford Ranger was stopped.

“A routine search led to the recovery of the 9mm Taurus pistol, concealed in a black bag with 16 live rounds of ammunition,” said Giblin.

“The female driver could not account for the firearm and was arrested.”

Further investigations confirmed that the firearm was reported stolen in Katlehong.

The woman was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
