A memorial service will be held for the two slain Boksburg North police officers at the Freeway Bible Church, Comet, this morning, October 19.

Police Minister Bheki Cele will also be in attendance at the service.

Sergeant VI Batsha (45) and Constable KP Malahlela (29) responded to a complaint of unnatural death at the corner of Main Reef and Field roads at 21:30. They were accosted by three suspects and fatally shot at 21:45.

National SAPS spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said the suspects fled the scene on foot and took the officers’ service pistols and bulletproof vests.

Police Minister Bheki Cele met with the families of the slain officers on October 15. He also visited the scene where the officers were attacked.

The national commissioner of the SAPS, General Fannie Masemola, has subsequently called on all South Africans to contribute to a safer country by working closely with the police to end the senseless attacks on and murders of police officers.

Anyone with information that can help the police arrest the culprits should contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or download the MySAPS App.

Information will be treated with confidentiality.
