Boksburg rocked by wave of violent crime

The wave of violent crimes saw victims suffering robberies, shooting, hijacking and rape at the hands of criminals.

Home invasion
A man is fighting for his life after he was shot in the head and neck during a home invasion in Boksburg.

According to the Boksburg police spokesperson, Sergeant Ntsako Ledwaba, the couple were at home in Angelo informal settlement on September 1 when a gang of three gunmen forced their way into the couple’s shack and demanded money at gunpoint.
“They took the woman’s R500 before they shot the boyfriend and left the scene. The suspects are known to the victims,” explained Ledwaba.
No arrests have been made so far.

Business robbery
In another robbery, a gang of about five gunmen invaded the Ackermans store on the corner of Kingfisher Avenue and Duiker Road in Sunward Park, making off with 60 brand new cellphones and a substantial amount of cash.
According to Ledwaba, on September 3, the robbers, who were initially disguised as customers, held the staff at gunpoint before they proceeded to help themselves to the cellphones and money in the cash registers.

Hijacked by ‘cops’
A truck driver had his company truck hijacked by gunmen dressed in police uniforms (traffic cops), on the corner of Brakpan and van Dyk roads in Boksburg South recently.
“The ‘traffic cops’ pulled the driver off and thereupon they dragged the driver into their car and drove with him to an unknown place where the driver was forced to drink a liquid substance. Thereafter he felt dizzy and was dumped at a location in Dawn Park,” said Ledwaba.

Raped
A woman told the police that she was raped by her baby’s father at her home on September 5.

Stolen cars
A woman had her car, a white Datsun, stolen while parked on Market Street in the Boksburg CBD on September 7.
Another car, a Toyota Etios, was stolen while parked in Leeuwpoort Street in the Boksburg CBD on September 7. Meanwhile, a Nissan NP200 was recently stolen while parked outside a property on Gesternte Road, in Sunward Park.
Police are investigating the thefts.

Culpable homicide
A three-year-old baby girl died after she was knocked by a white Ford Ranger in Comet on September 3.
According to Ledwaba, police received a complaint about mob justice and when they arrived at the scene they found the little girl lying on the ground. She had suffered head injuries and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
Her body was taken to the Germiston state mortuary. Police are investigating a culpable homicide case.
