Bogus police hijack truck driver on Atlas Road

The victim was also robbed of his wallet and cellphone.

A 34-year-old man was assaulted and robbed of his belongings in broad daylight, by bogus police officers, in a hijacking on Atlas Road on August 18.

According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Constable Justice Ramaube, the victim told police he was driving a white Toyota Hino at about 10:30 when he was signalled by a white VW Polo with blue lights to pull over.

“A man wearing a police reflective vest approached him and asked for his driver’s licence. After that, the man instructed the victim to follow him. As he arrived at the Polo, he noticed two other people inside the vehicle and a grey Kia behind the Polo,” said Ramaube.

One man then got out of the Kia and went to the truck. Meanwhile, another robber came out of the Polo and pointed a firearm at the victim and forced him into his car.

They blindfolded the victim and drove around for a while until they stopped to let him inside another car.

“The victim attempted to fight off the robbers and one of the men then hit him on the head with a hammer. Another robber also punched him in the face. They then tied the victim’s hands with shoelaces and transferred him into the Kia,” Ramaube added.

The robbers searched him and took his wallet and cellphone.

Ramaube said police are investigating a case of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
