IPID investigating death of man in Boksburg North holding cell

It is understood the man was detained after assaulting his father.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in his jail cell at the Boksburg North police station on August 12.

According to IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping, two police officers responded to a domestic violence complaint.
CPF members were on the scene and pointed out the suspect to the officers. The complainant allegedly claimed that his son, aged about 44 years, assaulted him.

The son was arrested and detained at the police station.

Later on, the son was declared dead in his cell by paramedics, who were there responding to another case.

Suping said a post-mortem was conducted on August 15 and IPID will pronounce the outcome once the investigation is complete.
