‘Hijacked’ truck story a lie

People are warned not to report any fabricated information to any police station because it is a criminal offence.

A man appeared in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court on August 1 on a charge of perjury.

According to the Dawn Park SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula, he was arrested at the station on July 26.

“The man dishonestly reported that on July 24 at 19:00, while travelling with a friend, his white Tata was hijacked by two armed men in Vosloorus.

“Our detectives investigated and found the information to be untrue. During questioning at the station, the man contradicted his written statement,” said Mabula.

What sealed the man’s fate was that the friend he claimed to have been in the truck with voluntarily brought the “hijacked” vehicle to the Dawn Park Police Station. A case of perjury was then opened.

“People must not report fabricated information at any police station because this is a criminal offence and you can be arrested and prosecuted,” said Mabula.
