Counterfeit goods seized in Boksburg CBD

This forms part of the authorities’ efforts to put a stop to counterfeit goods trade in the area.

A joint operation targeting counterfeit goods in Boksburg led to the seizure of dozens of fake products on July 29.

Boksburg SAPS and NorthernSouth Group (NSG) officers descended on the Boksburg CBD where they targeted three shops suspected of selling counterfeit Trust condoms and Ntsu snuff.

During the raid, two of the shops were found selling suspected fake goods, but the third targeted shop was closed when the team arrived. The illegal items, worth R670 altogether, were confiscated.

Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Ntsako Ledwaba said the confiscated goods would be taken to the laboratory for further investigation.

“The outcome of the laboratory test will determine the appropriate steps we need to take against the shop operators.”

NSG is a brand protection service provider for large and emerging brands in South Africa.

The organisation stated on its website that as a youth-based organisation, it is committed to challenging the negative effect of counterfeiting on brands, and strives to develop effective anti-counterfeit solutions.

It also stated that businesses in the country are faced with ever-increasing security risks in a pressurised trading environment, and therefore require dynamic and innovative brand service solutions.

NSG stated that its objectives are to protect the intellectual property of brands, provide quality and practical brand protection services, build a new generation where the negative effect of counterfeit is well known and counterfeit is seen as a crime, and also assist businesses to reach their full potential through effective acquisition, management, use and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
