Karateka selected for prestigious WUKF World Championship

At just 14, Boksburg's Roxy Postma has been chosen to represent South Africa at the 13th WUKF World Championship in Sweden.

Boksburg’s Roxy Postma (14) has been selected to be part of the prestigious World Unions of Karate Federations (WUKF) South African team.

Roxy, who trains at Goju Karate Academy, Parkrand, was chosen through a rigorous national selection process.

Roxy will travel to Malmo, Sweden, in July, where she will compete in the 13th WUKF World Championship in both kata and kumite.

According to her mother, Reza Postma, Roxy’s journey in karate began just six years ago when she started as a white belt.

“Since then, she has poured her heart and soul into the sport, working tirelessly to improve her skills.

“In November of last year, she earned her junior black belt. Her success has been made possible through the guidance of her talented senseis and her immense passion for karate, ensuring that she never misses a lesson.

“As a mother, I could not be more proud of Roxy’s achievement. Dedication at this level is key, and she has certainly demonstrated that every step of the way.”

Postma said Roxy continues to push herself in training, determined to give her best performance in Sweden and to make the most of the incredible opportunity ahead.

“The excitement of competing on the world stage is truly overwhelming for Roxy. She looks forward to the experience of representing WUKF South Africa against competitors from around the globe.

“It’s a dream come true, especially considering her previous success in international competitions, where she brought home both a gold and silver medals.”

Postma said the journey to Sweden is not without its challenges.

“The trip is entirely self-funded, and we are seeking donations to help cover Roxy’s transport and accommodation costs.

“These funds are essential to making this dream a reality, and we hope to raise them within the next couple of months.

“Your support would mean the world to us. Any contribution would go a long way in helping Roxy achieve her goal of competing in the WUKF World Championship.

“She is determined, passionate and ready to give her all for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
