Woodlands International College recently sent 36 students on a carefully designed cultural tour of several European countries.
Run each alternate year and accompanied by teaching staff, students enjoy two weeks of immersion in a foreign environment.
In no small measure, Woodlands attributes its success to the holistic approach it brings to the equation – not only in the classroom but also beyond its walls.
Senior college director Audrey Matthews says Woodlands takes its ‘International’ appellation to heart.
“We firmly believe travel experience broadens children’s horizons in extraordinary ways. The college strives to expose its students to impactful academic, sporting and cultural experiences around the world, including the recent Euro Tour, the Giochi del Tricolore Soccer in Italy, and the Dana Cup Soccer Tournament in Denmark, to name but a few.”
Echoing these sentiments, Hazel Bonaretti, the principal of the senior college, explains that Woodlands – in an ever-shrinking world – aligns its educational curricula with leading-edge global best practices, adopting international benchmarks to ensure its graduates are poised to become global citizens.
Says Bonaretti, “Our enrichment tours promote a keen awareness of the interconnectivity of nations and the nuances of different cultures through carefully curated travel expeditions in perhaps the greatest classroom of them all.”
This year’s edition saw the young adventurers journey to Italy (Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Lucca and San Gimignano), Switzerland (Lucerne, Interlaken and Kriens), and Spain (Barcelona), where they visited the Picasso Museum and went on a guided walking tour of Antoni Gaudi’s (architect and designer) masterpieces, including the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, the famed bullring, La Monumental, the Duomo di Milano, the Colosseum, the Piazza San Marco, the Spanish Steps, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and many other attractions.
