Karateka shine at championship

They won five bronze and two silver medals.

The Lotus Karate Club karateka collected seven medals during the South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA) national championship at Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre recently.

The Parkrand-based club won five bronze and two silver medals.

Sanidhi Singh collected a pair of silvers in kata and kumite, while both Precious Tshazi and Zaniqua Joyce received bronze medals in both kata and kumite, respectively. Onyinye Oguaju won a bronze in kumite.

The club’s chief instructor, sensei Raveen Dayaram, said it was one of the toughest tournaments his students have participated in, adding they competed valiantly.

“Congratulations to all those who won medals. We learnt a lot from the competition and will use the knowledge to make us better,” he said.

“We thank all our students for all their hard work and effort they put into this tournament. We are extremely proud of them.”
