Coach Ingrid Ruiters said the match was characterised by fierce competition and remarkable displays of skill from both teams.

Woodlands International Football Academy (WIFA) U7 team emerged victorious against Olympiacos, clinching a narrow 1-0 win in the finals held at Benoni Northerns on October 6.

Coach Ingrid Ruiters said the match was characterised by fierce competition and remarkable displays of skill from both teams.

“From the opening whistle, it was clear that both teams were eager to claim the title.

“The atmosphere was electric, with supporters from both sides filling the stands, cheering passionately for their young athletes.

“WIFA started strong, pushing forward with aggressive plays and creating several scoring opportunities.

“However, despite their best efforts, they found themselves thwarted time and again by Olympiacos’s robust defense.

“The first half saw WIFA come close to breaking the deadlock on multiple occasions.

“Strikers tested the opposing goalkeeper with powerful shots, but luck was not on their side as they struck the crossbar twice.

“We had our chances. It was frustrating to see those shots go so close without finding the back of the net.”

“As the second half commenced, both teams appeared determined to seize control of the game.”

Ruiter encouraged her players to maintain their composure and focus on teamwork.

“I told them to keep pushing and to believe in each other,” she explained.

“The turning point came midway through the second half when WIFA’s Khotso received a well-placed pass from a teammate just outside the penalty area.

“With deft footwork and an eye for goal, Khotso manoeuvred past defenders and unleashed a powerful shot.

Ruiters said the win was not just about today but all the hard work the players have put in over the season.

Ruiters also acknowledged Olympiacos’s performance, praising them for their strong showing and sportsmanship throughout the match.

“It was a tough battle against a great team,” she said. “Both sides played with heart.”
