CPF warns of crime spike in Reiger Park

The chairperson of the Reiger Park CPF, Mmapheello Mokoena, has issued a call for increased vigilance, especially in the evenings when electricity outages make the community more vulnerable to criminal activity.

Reiger Park and its surrounding areas are currently facing a spike in crime, prompting community leaders to take swift action to protect residents.

The chairperson of the Reiger Park CPF, Mmapheello Mokoena, has issued a call for increased vigilance, especially in the evenings when electricity outages make the community more vulnerable to criminal activity.

Mokoena highlighted a particular crime hotspot in Delmore Gardens, where criminals have been targeting unsuspecting residents.

“From the robots on Commissioner Street when you enter Delmore Gardens, people are getting robbed. We urge everyone to be cautious, especially when getting off taxis after work.”

Mmapheello said the situation has become so dire that one local pastor has volunteered to cut down trees in the area, which criminals have used as hiding spots after committing their crimes.

“People are robbed with guns. The community has reported that after the robberies, some criminals run towards nearby places or hide in the trees.”

In preparation for the upcoming festive season, Mokoena stressed the importance of building strong relationships within the community.

“What we are making the community aware of now is to know your neighbour or start participating in neighborhood watch programmes.

“As we approach the festive season, house break-ins and thefts are likely to increase.”

Mokoena also emphasised the importance of reporting any suspicious activity, especially during power outages.

“Let us be vigilant and report any suspicious movement or crime, especially now when we don’t have electricity.

Criminals take advantage of these situations,” she warned.
