Nova Pioneer honours heritage

The learners, dressed in their unique traditional attire, arrived on campus with an array of traditional cuisines from different regions of the continent, offering their peers a taste of Africa’s culinary heritage.

Nova Pioneer Boksburg celebrated Heritage Day with a vibrant display of African traditions and cultures on September 20.

The learners, dressed in their unique traditional attire, arrived on campus with an array of traditional cuisines from different regions of the continent, offering their peers a taste of Africa’s culinary heritage.

Robyn Thompson, head of the school, said the event was a joyful and educational experience that honoured the richness of African cultures while promoting unity and understanding among the learners.

“The Heritage Day celebration highlighted the diversity woven into the fabric of the Nova Pioneer community.

Learners showcased their cultural backgrounds through clothing and food, each representing the distinctive traditions of their heritage.

“From the bold prints of West African designs to the elegant beadwork of Southern Africa, the traditional attires were a colourful reminder of the continent’s deep cultural legacy.”

The rhythm of unity filled the air as learners participated in an exhilarating drumming session.

Thompson said a thrilling drumming activity was the day’s highlight, which captivated learners and staff.

“The rhythmic beats of traditional African drums filled the air as learners participated in the interactive session, learning the power of music as cultural expression.

“The drumming symbolised unity and celebration, bringing everyone in harmony and excitement.

“The day’s festivities provided an engaging platform for learners to learn about each other’s cultural backgrounds and traditions.

“Learners developed a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving their heritage and respecting the diverse cultures within their school community by sharing stories, music, and meals,” said Thompson.
