Reiger Park’s CPF encourages community collaboration to tackle crime

The ongoing initiative aims to foster stronger ties between residents and the police, while combating crime in the area.

Reiger Park’s newly selected CPF, under the leadership of chairperson Mmapheello Mokoena, has been actively working to engage and educate the local community since their appointment on August 3.

The ongoing initiative aims to foster stronger ties between residents and the police, while combating crime in the area.

Mokeona said the CPF has already made strides in reaching out to key communities, such as Joe Slovo Informal Settlement and Delmore Gardens.

“These engagements are focused on raising awareness about the various crimes affecting these areas, including robberies and murders, and encouraging residents to take an active role in fighting crime.”

Speaking about the initiative, Mokoena said, “We’ve been working hard to introduce ourselves to the community.
“We also sensitise the public about the types of crimes that are occurring.

“Our goal is to close the gap between the community and SAPS by encouraging residents to join hands with us.”

One of the key messages delivered during these engagements was the importance of community-driven solutions to crime, such as establishing neighborhood night watches.

Residents were urged to collaborate with the CPF to create a united front against criminal activities, making their neighbourhoods safer for everyone.

However, challenges remain. Mokoena acknowledged that many community members are still unfamiliar with the CPF’s role and purpose, which has led to misunderstandings and criticism.

“We want to encourage our community to attend CPF or public meetings when they are held in their areas.

“This way, they can gain a better understanding of what the CPF does and how we can work together.”

The Reiger Park CPF continues to push for greater community involvement, emphasising that the fight against crime requires a collective effort.

By bridging the gap between residents and law enforcement, the CPF hopes to create a more secure and connected community for all.
