Revamped paediatric area at TMH welcomes families

As part of its ongoing commitment to creating a safe and comfortable environment for patients, Tambo Memorial Hospital (TMH) recently unveiled a newly refurbished paediatric waiting area.

The waiting area was handed over by Republic of Mozambique Pipeline Investments Company (ROMPCO) on September 13.

The upgraded space is designed to better accommodate young patients and their families, enhancing their overall healthcare experience.

TMH CEO Zenzo Ndabula highlighted that the renovation includes several child-friendly features aimed at fostering a more welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

“With breastfeeding mothers in mind, the waiting area offers a private, comfortable space, allowing mothers to care for and support their children while awaiting medical attention.

“By addressing both the physical and emotional needs of patients and their families, the new paediatric area will significantly improve their healthcare experience.”

Ndabula expressed his gratitude to ROMPCO for their contribution and emphasised the importance of the project.

“This initiative aligns with the goals of the National Health Insurance scheme, ensuring that quality healthcare services are accessible to all.

“The refurbishment of the paediatric waiting area demonstrates our commitment to enhancing patient care, which will have a lasting impact on the community.”

Located on the fourth floor next to the paediatric ward, the waiting area is specifically designed for mothers of hospitalised children.

Ndabula noted that the space was in need of an upgrade and the renovation has revitalised it.

He added that parents will benefit from the clear communication with medical staff due to the waiting area’s strategic location adjacent to the ward.

“This proximity allows for timely updates on their child’s care, as well as prompt communication regarding waiting times or any changes in treatment schedule.

“Unlike general visiting hours, mothers in this dedicated space will have extended access, ensuring they can remain close to their children throughout their stay.”

In addition to the physical improvements, TMH has implemented an internal feedback system to further enhance the patient experience.

Families are encouraged to share their thoughts on the paediatric waiting area through suggestion boxes placed throughout the hospital.
