Atlasville’s Dojo NWS triumphs at Dojo Cup

Under the leadership of sensei Takis Chaniotakos, a 6th dan black belt, the club secured first place after several years of striving for this honour.

The Dojo New World Shotokan (NWS) Karate Club in Atlasville achieved a remarkable victory at the annual Dojo Cup Inter-Club Championship held recently at Belvedere School in Benoni.

Under the leadership of sensei Takis Chaniotakos, a 6th dan black belt, the club secured first place after several years of striving for this honour.

Chaniotakos said the dojo showcased an impressive performance, bringing home 46 medals – 17 gold, 16 silver and 13 across the kata and kumite events.

“This year’s championship featured participation from seven clubs affiliated with the World United Karate Federation (WUKF), highlighting a spirited competition among the karate community.”

Chaniotakos expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “It was an awesome event where Karate For All came down to everyone having fun and doing their best.”

He emphasised the inclusive nature of the Dojo Cup, which invites any club wishing to participate each year.

“The floating trophy awarded to the winning club must be defended in subsequent championships, adding an exciting element of competition,” said Chaniotakos.

The results of the championship:

• First: The Dojo NWS, Atlasville;

• Second: The Dojo NWS-Benoni;

• Third: The GKA-Goju Karate Academy.

Looking ahead, Chaniotakos announced that the next Dojo Cup Challenge is scheduled for August 2025, inviting interested clubs to call him on 083 236 6688 for participation details.

The venue and date will be confirmed shortly, ensuring another opportunity for karate enthusiasts to come together and showcase their skills.
