Ekurhuleni wins spelling bee competition

The region was represented by 15 spellers from Bacha Ba Dichaba Explorers.

Njabulo Mpengesi of Gugulesizwe Primary School helped Ekurhuleni win the Gauteng Provincial Spelling Competition at Gauteng Archives Centre in Krugersdorp on September 3.

Mpengesi was the competition’s top speller after clinching the first position to win a laptop, medal, gift voucher and trophy.

The region was represented by 15 spellers from Etwatwa spelling bee club, Bacha Ba Dichaba Explorers (BBDE). The event was organized by the provincial department of sport, recreation, arts and culture.

Samukelo Ntanzi was third in the competition to cap-off a dominant event for Ekurhuleni. She went home with a tablet, gift voucher and trophy.

“We would like to thank the parents and teachers who trusted us with their children to participate in the competition,” said BBDE CEO Thabang Dichaba.

Dichaba thanked the 100% Foundation for their constant support.
