Follow up: Buy Urban Ruins’ oyster mushrooms

Urban Ruins calls for community support to boost its production capabilities.

The local NPO Urban Ruins Projects is making waves in the mushroom market with its innovative oyster mushroom cultivation initiative.

CEO Clayton Viljoen said Urban Ruins has seen a surge in interest from local suppliers and buyers eager to buy their oyster mushrooms.

“With the health benefits of these fungi gaining recognition, the demand for oyster mushrooms is rising.

“Rich in nutrients and antioxidants, oyster mushrooms are celebrated for their ability to bolster immunity and provide essential vitamins, making them a popular choice among health-conscious consumers.

“We are thrilled with the response from local shops. They recognise the quality of our mushrooms and are excited to offer them to their customers. However, to meet this growing demand, we need to expand our operations.”

To enhance their production capabilities, Urban Ruins is calling for community support. Viljoen said they require donations of essential materials, including fencing, a mist maker and an air conditioning unit.

“With the right resources, we can significantly increase our output and continue to provide fresh produce to our community.”
