A man was shot and injured after robbers targeted a jewellery store at the East Rand Mall on the afternoon of August 27.
The Boksburg Advertiser is still awaiting official confirmation from the police, but information gathered on the scene suggests that there were about 12 robbers.
It appears that the men jumped over the fence in front of Jewellery Club, and managed to get away with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.
As the robbers were trying to escape, they shot a bystander in the leg.
A witness, an employee at a nearby store, told the Advertiser that she is traumatised by the experience.
“I heard gunshots. They started shooting immediately after they robbed the place. It was so terrifying,” said the witness.
A well-placed source told this publication that a suspect has already been arrested and a BMW used in the robbery was found.
According to this source, the robbers also hijacked a woman driving a Mercedes on their way out of the mall area.
East Rand Mall told the Boksburg Advertiser they will send a press statement.
It is not the first time this jewellery store has been targeted by robbers. The store was robbed on Father’s Day last year, June 18.
