Tambo Memorial Hospital excels in health standards

The certificate is a recognition of the hospital’s exemplary adherence to the rigorous norms and standards established by the Minister of Health under the National Health Act.

The Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC) officially recognised Tambo Memorial Hospital with a certificate of compliance.

The Gauteng Department of Health’s Quality Assurance Department presented the award during a special ceremony held at the hospital on August 14.

They handed the certificate to Zenzo Ndabula, the CEO of Tambo Memorial Hospital, in recognition of the hospital’s exemplary adherence to the rigorous norms and standards established by the Minister of Health under the National Health Act.

Zoliswa Nzeku, spokesperson of Tambo Memorial Hospital, said this certification is proof of the hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality, safe, and patient-centred healthcare services.

“Healthcare facilities that meet the OHSC stringent standards receive the certificate of compliance, which encompasses a wide range of healthcare service delivery aspects, including patient safety, clinical care, governance, and the physical environment.

“In February this year, Tambo Memorial Hospital underwent a comprehensive evaluation by the OHSC, focusing on critical areas essential for healthcare delivery.

“The hospital achieved a perfect score of 100% in all assessed areas, demonstrating it not only met but exceeded the standards required by the OHSC, by the National Health Act.”

Lindiwe Buthelezi and Dr Khulekani Shezi, clinical managers of the Tambo Memorial Hospital.

Nzeku said the assessment covered various critical domains, including the office of the CEO, which evaluated leadership and administrative effectiveness.

“Infection prevention and control was scrutinised to ensure strict adherence to hygiene and safety protocols, while occupational health and safety assessments focused on protecting staff and patients.

“The assessment thoroughly reviewed patient care standards in the outpatient and inpatient departments and clinical services for the quality and efficiency of medical interventions.

“Additionally, the healthcare quality management was inspected to gauge the hospital’s overall strategy in maintaining and improving care delivery.”

During the certificate handover ceremony, Ndabula, expressed pride in this significant achievement, especially given the challenges faced in previous assessments where the hospital did not fully meet certain standards.

“This accomplishment represents a significant milestone for all hospital staff.

“It demonstrates our collective effort and teamwork in ensuring that we achieve all required standards, not only for the assessment but, more importantly, for the continued well-being of our patients.

“I encourage you to take pride in this achievement and remain committed to upholding these high standards.

“Let us continue to take ownership of this success and maintain excellence in all we do.”
