Comet gymnast to represent Gauteng at 2024 Gym Games

Macayla’s selection to the Gauteng team comes after her impressive performance at the Gauteng Championships on August 9 and 10 at the Matsport Centre in Eldoraigne.

Macayla Williams (12), a gymnast from Comet, was selected to represent the Gauteng Gymnastics Association at the 2024 Gym Games.

This event will be at the Western Cape Sports School in Cape Town from September 25 to 29, showcasing the best young gymnasts from across SA.

The athlete’s selection to the Gauteng team comes after her impressive performance at the Gauteng Championships on August 9 and 10 at the Matsport Centre in Eldoraigne.

Macayla’s skills and dedication earned her a spot on the team after competing against the top gymnasts in her province.

She will participate in level five and showcase her strength, flexibility, and artistry on the various apparatuses at the Gym Games.

Her mother, Schaunette, expressed pride in her daughter’s accomplishments. She emphasised the countless hours Macayla has spent perfecting her routines and honing her skills in the gym.

“Despite the challenges of balancing her rigorous training schedule with her academic responsibilities, Macayla has remained focused and determined.

“With assessments and tests currently taking place at school, she has had to juggle her study time with hockey and gymnastics practice after school.

“This often leads to late nights spent studying and completing homework after training sessions, proving she is dedicated to her academic and athletic pursuits.”
