The fire has caused extensive damage to the school's classrooms, kitchen and resources, leaving the school community in a state of distress as they grapple with a severe shortage of essential items.

Dawn Park Primary School is appealing for donations following a fire that caused extensive damage on August 13.

The fire gutted classrooms, the kitchen and resources, leaving the school community in a state of distress as they grapple with a severe shortage of essential items.

Principal Vusi Motaung expressed the ongoing challenges the school faces in the aftermath of the fire.

“We are still waiting for mobile classes, chairs and tables. There has been no progress in repairing the classrooms.

We are also still in the dark about what caused the fire,” he said.

The school has temporarily converted a classroom into a feeding scheme, ensuring that learners continue to receive the nourishment they need to thrive.

“The Ekurhuleni South District and the head office responded quickly to the situation, sending nutrition officials who provided food supplies to sustain the learners for several weeks.

“The fire has resulted in the loss of many essential items, including tables, chairs, books, textbooks, plates and stoves, leaving us with only one functional stove for food preparation,” the principal said.
