Mahoney to take over SA National Cross Country Motorcycle Championship

“I am honoured to give back to racing that has played such an influential part in my career and life."

Motorsport South Africa (MSA) announced that racing legend Louwrens Mahoney will take over the reins of the South African National Cross Country Motorcycle Championship.

The multiple South African national champion and three-time Roof of Africa winner and his wife Marilyn will take over as chairperson and vice-chairperson of the MSA Cross Country Motorcycle Working Group from Kyle Enslin and Deanne Ballington, respectively.

MSA CEO, Adrian Scholtz, thanked Enslin and Ballington for their service and support for the series.

“Besides his impeccable racing pedigree, Mahoney is no stranger to event management. He served as a race director in 2016 for the South African Cross Country Series (SACC) for the national motorcycles and quads. He then became the race director of the popular GXCC Racing Series for four years, followed by the race director of the 2023 Roof of Africa Hard Enduro,” said Scholtz.

“We believe he will bring a high level of professionalism and excitement to the championship.”

Scholtz explained Mahoney will manage the season finale in Bloemfontein on September 14. This is a dramatic conclusion to a series filled with high-speed action and top-class strategic racing and then continues as the championship promoter for the 2025 series.

Commenting on the appointment, Mahoney said, “I am honoured to give back to racing that has played such an influential part in my career and life. I believe cross country racing holds great power to unite people, test one’s capabilities and endure challenges that come your way.”

He added, “We aim at creating a safe, controlled platform for riders, manufacturers and teams to showcase their talents, strengths and determination.

“With a commitment to safety, fairness and inclusivity, our vision is to create an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators.”
