Reiger Park elects historic all-women CPF leadership

Reiger Park CPF makes history with all-women leadership team, pledging to tackle local issues and enhance community safety.

The Reiger Park CPF has made history by electing an all-women leadership team, a significant milestone for the community.

The elections took place on August 3 in Reiger Park, where 16 members were chosen to represent the community and address pressing local issues.

Mmapheello Mokoena, the newly elected chairperson of the Reiger Park CPF, expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm for this historic achievement.

“We are so happy that it is an all-women forum, and we want people to see that we can also do it and want to bring change.”

Mokoena emphasised that the all-women leadership is more than just a symbolic victory; it represents a commitment to fostering a safer and more inclusive environment for all residents.

“By empowering women to take on leadership roles, we aim to inspire others in the community to participate actively in local governance and crime prevention efforts.”

Mokoena said the newly elected CPF is determined to address several critical issues affecting the community.

Among the top priorities are illegal shebeens, shootings, gangsterism, substance abuse, missing children, and GBV.

“Our main issue we want to tackle is illegal shebeens, especially in Ramaphosa, because I feel like they contribute a lot to these issues.”

The CPF recognises that these challenges require a collaborative approach. Mokoena and her team are committed to engaging with community members to develop effective strategies for crime prevention.

“We want the community members to work with us,” she said, highlighting the importance of building trust and cooperation between the CPF and the residents.

“To foster this collaboration, we plan to hold regular meetings with community members.

“These gatherings will serve as a platform for residents to voice their concerns, share experiences, and contribute ideas for tackling crime in the area,” Mokoena stated.

The CPF’s approach emphasises transparency and open communication, aiming to create a sense of shared responsibility for community safety.

“By involving residents in the decision-making process, the CPF hopes to empower individuals and encourage a collective effort to create a safer environment.

Mokoena’s previous experience as chairperson of one of the three sectors – Reiger Park, Ramaphosa, and Joe Slovo informal settlements – has equipped her with valuable insights into the unique challenges facing each area.

“We have three sectors, and I believe that understanding the specific needs of each community will help us implement more effective solutions,” she noted.

Mokena said that the election of an all-women CPF is a significant step toward enhancing safety and security in Reiger Park.

“This does not only reflect a commitment to gender equality but also demonstrates the potential for women to lead effectively in community initiatives.”

“Crime affects us all, regardless of our circumstances. As members of society, we have a moral obligation to report any suspicious or illegal activities that come to our attention.

“By working together and taking an active role in our communities, we can help prevent crime and ensure that justice is served,” said Mokoena.
