Gymnasts to compete in Mauritius

Boksburg Gym & Tumbling is set to make its mark on the international stage as 11 of their talented gymnasts, aged between 10 and 16, have qualified to compete in an international competition in Mauritius.

The event will be held on August 10, with the team departing on August 8 and returning on August 12.

The journey to this point has been an attestation to the dedication and hard work of the gymnasts, who have been training tirelessly for months.

Jackie Cilliers, the founder of Boksburg Gym & Tumbling and a respected member of the South African Aerialnastix Association, has been instrumental in guiding the team to this prestigious opportunity.

“These gymnasts have been working incredibly hard, and I am immensely proud that they have been selected.

“Their journey began with regional qualifications, followed by provincial competitions, and now they have earned the chance to compete internationally.

“They will join at least forty other gymnasts from various clubs across South Africa.

“While this competition is not aimed at the highest level of gymnastics in the country, it is highly competitive at the intermediate level, and our athletes are among the best in their categories.”

Cilliers said the team were selected on April 13 to set the stage for an intensive four-month training regimen.

“The gymnasts have shown commitment, balancing their rigorous training schedules with schoolwork and other responsibilities.

“Their preparation has included not only physical training but also mental conditioning, ensuring they are ready to perform under the pressures of an international event.

“It is always exciting when members are selected to compete on an international level.

“Our gymnasts are well-prepared and ready to showcase their talents in Mauritius.

“This opportunity is not just about winning medals; it’s about gaining invaluable experience, building confidence, and forming lifelong memories.”

She emphasised that fundraising efforts, corporate sponsorships, and the financial support from the gym and parents were essential in enabling this international trip to take place.
