BAC runner delivers at Race Against Cancer

He finished the race in 01:21:13.

Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC)’s Rieghardt Rautenbach finished in the top 10 of the Vitality Series Race Against Cancer half marathon at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on June 22.

Running at a pace of 03:51min/km the triathlete clocked in at 01:21:13 to finish the race in 10th place after a hard slog in the men’s 21.1km.

Ikhaya Lethu AC elite runner Samuel Moloi cut the tape in 01:09:04 to win the race. Elliot Kupa of Distance Run Club secured the silver 20 seconds later and Take it Easy AC runner Justice Ngobeni completed the top three in 01:11:24.

The winner of the Colgate Race women’s 15km Gillian Farquharson clinched the ladies’ half marathon after coasting victory in 01:26:43. Her Nedbank Running Club teammate Shanice Peers came second in 01:27:23 and Annelise Bunce clocked 01:30:01 for the bronze.

The Race Against Cancer kicked off the Johannesburg leg of the Vitality Run Series, which includes the Rockies Gerald Fox Memorial Race on July 14, Randburg Harriers Challenge (July 28), Old Eds Road Race (August 11) and Wanders Road Race (August 25).
