DEMS hosts structural rescue exercise

Don't be alarmed, it's only a structural rescue training exercise for rescue teams at the Leon Ferreira Fire Station.

The CoE’s DEMS is hosting a rescue team from Polokwane for a structural rescue exercise that started this afternoon (June 25).

The exercise will continue until tomorrow morning (June 26).
According to DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi, assessors from the neighbouring cities, Tshwane, Johannesburg and SAESI (South Africa Emergency Services Institute) will oversee the entire operation for quality compliance.
Ntladi said the exercise’s primary objective is to sharpen rescue teams’ skills to ensure they are ready to respond to disasters such as the one in George earlier this year, where a building collapsed.
