Dan Triangle’s Thela wins second world champs gold medal

He won his first world championship gold in 2019.

The Dan Triangle Karate Club’s Christopher Thela won a gold medal in kumite at the Karatenomich World Federation (KWF) World Championships at the Tokyo Sports Culture Centre in Tokyo on October 15.

Thela obtained his gold in the masters division. This is his second world championships gold medal after his first in 2019.

The club’s Stephanie Watt clinched a bronze in kata in the senior open division – her first medal in the competition in her first attempt.

The duo was also trained by the KWF grandmaster, 10th dan Mikio Yahara.

Chief instructor of the Dan Triangle Karate Club, sensei Chris Anthony thanked the pair for representing South Africa and the club with pride, adding that this achievement was due to their hard work and dedication to the sport.
