Fatal crash that claimed life of Boksburg pilot, passenger under investigation

The accident claimed the lives of two people, one of whom has not been identified.

It has now been confirmed that two people lost their lives in a light plane crash at the Springs Airfield on Saturday morning.

Pilot Fanie Bezuidenhout (68) from Boksburg and a passenger, that is yet to be named, were flying his Jodel F12 when the accident happened.

The crash happened during a closed photography event where the pilots were showcasing for the attending photographers.

The event, which was a congress hosted by the Photographic Society of South Africa, was held at the location to offer a unique experience for the photographers.



It also included motorcyclists and personnel from different industries. Emergency services were called to the scene and the area was cordoned off by the Springs SAPS.

South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) spokesperson Sisa Majola was called to the scene and confirmed the two deaths.

An investigation into the crash has been open by SACAA.

“A preliminary report will be issued within 30 days from the day of the accident,” said Majola.
