Hugo (4) swings to victory at Ebotse Links

“I was happy and proud of myself when I won. I want to play on the golf course with all the professionals. ”

Young golfer Hugo Luizinho (4) scored 45 points to win the SA Kids Golf Junior Open’s boys aged five and six category at Ebotse Links on October 1.

Hugo shrugged off close competition from Mark Collett, who finished in second place and Eanon Goliath, who was third to win the Gauteng edition of the tournament.

“I was happy and proud of myself when I won. I want to play on the golf course with all the professionals,” he said.

The youngster started playing golf at the age of two, honing his skills with plastic clubs before graduating to metal alloy clubs a year later.

Third-placed Eanon Goliath.

“For his third birthday, he received his first set of real golf clubs. He then started playing for SA Kids Golf where he competes in the five to six age category,” said Hugo’s mom, Natasha.

He said his favourite golfer is two-time major winner, Spanish golfer Johan Rahm, whose major achievements include the winning Masters this year and the US Open title that he won in 2021.

He said the Spaniard’s 8-under 63 course record achieved during the third round of the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool in June was the best moment he’d ever seen on a golf course.

“I like John very much because he broke the course record and he is very good,” Hugo said.

The four-year-old stated his next goal is to score a hole-in-one.
