Minnaar’s ton helps Sabres go top

Nico Minnaar scored a quickfire century to guide the Benoni Sabres to a 192-run victory over Springs Old Boys in the East Rand Veterans’ League on October 1 at CBC Boksburg.

Minnaar scored a match-winning 102 from 34 balls to earn himself the man-of-the-match award.

He was ably assisted by Bruce Gilson (53 off 31), Jaco Minnaar (50 off 29) and Daan Kock (36 off 25) as the Sabres posted 347/5 in their 30 overs.

In response, Springs was dismissed for 155/7 as Chiraag Parbhoo took three wickets to help his team win the match and move to the top of the log table.

Scimitars win

André Steyn and Ephraim Nyawo’s half-centuries helped the Benoni Scimitars beat the Elsburg Eagles by 129 runs.

Steyn scored 88 from 44 balls, while Nyawo added 75 from 47 balls to set Elsburg a target of 262 to win.

Despite Sias Vermaak’s 42, Elsburg was dismissed for 132/7, with Jan Grobbelaar taking two wickets.
