Farrarmere Primary are City Times QuizzMasters

“General knowledge seems to be lacking these days. There aren’t a lot of children able to answer these types of questions. To see the teams representing all the schools here today was great.”

Farrarmere Primary School was crowned the winner of the inaugural Benoni City Times QuizzMasters on September 13 at Smith’s Café in Northmead.

Quizzed on current affairs, sports, geography, travel, popular culture and the September 8 edition of Benoni City Times, the team from Farrarmere took first place with 40 points.

The team, comprising Caylum de Wet, Luke Bromley, Riley Glass and Yohitan Veramoothea, scored highest in the sports (10 points) and Benoni City Times (14 points) categories.

The school’s Glass thanked the event organisers and added that it had taught her the importance of staying abreast of events happening in the country and globally.

“I now know who the president of France is,” she said. “During our research, I also learnt that February 6 is a public holiday in Jamaica because it’s the late Bob Marley’s birthday.”

Her teammate, Veramoothea, said the quiz helped improve his general knowledge and realise the importance of teamwork.

Ryder Cooltsley gives the Benoni City Times QuizzMasters a thumbs-up.

“I learnt that it doesn’t matter if you lose or win. It’s all about having fun and if you win, it’s a bonus,” Veramoothea said.

Speaking on behalf of Farrarmere Primary’s teachers, Dyllan Gebhardt stressed the importance of general knowledge for learners, saying it kept them connected and up to date with everything happening in the world.
