Mom gets no updates on son’s death

Kamokgelo's death has affected the family.

Thembisile Gama, the mother of Kamokgelo (22), who died in an accident involving a Boksburg North SAPS vehicle on the R554 Road on April 22, is struggling to come to terms with her son’s death.

According to the uncle of the deceased, Bongani Mtshali, the family had received no updates about the case since the accident on that fateful day.

Kamokgelo died of head and chest injuries in the accident that involved a Toyota Yaris he was pushing, a Boksburg North SAPS car and a Ford Ranger.

Mtshali said the deceased’s mother is not coping at all.

“She has been sick since the accident and in and out of hospitals. The situation is bad. Thembisile was even admitted to a psychiatric hospital.”

He said Thembisile was about to lose her job and home because of how badly the situation had affected her.
“She works at Bertha Gxowa Hospital and, due to her illness, has exceeded her leave by 42 days, which is now unpaid. We have tried to engage with hospital management to ask them to consider reversing the decision, but they are unwilling to.

“Due to the pressure Thembisile is subjected to, she is thinking of resigning and selling her house. We fear the worst as a family and want Thembisile to get help with her situation.”

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson, Robbie Raburabu, said the matter had not yet gone to the director of public prosecutions for a decision because the post-mortem report, vehicle technical report and a few statements were still outstanding.

Raburabu previously confirmed that IPID was investigating a case of culpable homicide.

Furthermore, IPID said they were aware of allegations about a bottle of alcohol found in the SAPS vehicle and investigated this, too.
