Local athletes and fun-runners were urged to enter the Daveyton Street Mile on September 17.

The organisers, Daveyton Hearts Athletic Club, plead with runners and people of all fitness levels to put on their running gear and fill the streets of Daveyton to promote running in the community.

The club will host this beloved community race that includes the 10km, 5km and one mile events at the Sinaba Stadium for the first time since 2019.

“We encourage all community members to enter to promote healthy living and help us develop the youth to become active in sport,” said Rebone Malapane, secretary of the Daveyton Hearts.

Entries are still open and online entries will close at midnight on September 13.

The entry fee for the 5km is R100 and R160 for the 10km. For the mile, it’s R50.

Malapane said the race offered the Daveyton Hearts a chance to give back to the community, adding that the proceeds from the event would go to funding their development programme and CSI (corporate social investment) initiatives.

“Like we did after our last event, we will donate to a local NPO making a difference in our community. For us, this is a great opportunity to network and connect with the people of Daveyton,” she said.

The starting gun will be fired at 07:00.
