Operation Okae Molao focuses on crimes in Dawn Park

The operation has extended to other provinces.

Operation Okae Molao returned to Dawn Park to curb increasing patterns of crime in the area.

The operation took place from June 28 to 29.

Road blocks were held at Barry Marias and Rondebult roads, with other law enforcement operations held in other parts of Dawn Park.

The crime prevention wardens assisted in checking cars during the operation.

According to the SAPS deputy district commissioner, Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, they came back to Dawn Park because as the district they have a responsibility to assist all the 39 police stations in Ekurhuleni.

“We analyse the crime patterns of a particular police station and check if they are any shortcomings. Then if we see that there are increasing patterns of crime in the police station we then assist.

“That’s why we are here today. We saw that the area had an increase in crime patterns,” explained Machakela.

He said that they have been combating crime from early in the morning.

“We have arrested 201 suspects who are wanted for various crimes, including GBV. We also arrested 23 undocumented people, and six people for possession of drugs, and we searched over 190 vehicles and 145 people.

Cars were being pulled over and drivers were asked to produce their licences.

“Operation Okae Molao has yielded good results across the region, as you have seen the police minister has even adopted the operation as a national programme. The minister calls it Operation Shanyela, but the concept comes from Operation Okae Molao,” he said.

He added that the operation has even extended to other provinces.

“The minister even invited two commissioners from the other provinces to see how we roll out the operations, so that they can learn and roll them out in their provinces. I don’t think if the operations were not yielding any good results the minister would buy into them,” concluded Machakela.
