Motive for Prinsloo’s murder not confirmed

Germiston community shocked by murder of motherly figure known for her involvement with Dinwiddie Sports Club, CPF and Ekurhuleni South Darts Association.

Members of the Germiston community were left in shock after Elspark resident and beloved Ward 39 community member Thea Prinsloo was murdered.

Prinsloo, who ran Dinwiddie Sports Club, was shot and killed in the early hours of June 25 during an alleged attempted hijacking.

Provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said police are investigating the circumstances that led to Prinsloo’s death.

“On arrival, police officers found the deceased lying next to a car inside the yard at the Elspark property,” said Masondo.

“The victim was found with gunshot wounds and was certified dead at the scene.”

Masondo said the motive for the killing cannot yet be confirmed. Speaking about the impact of Prinsloo’s murder on the community, Ward 39 Clr Jean Ingram said the community at large will miss Prinsloo.

“Her death will be felt in the community as she was like a second mother to many people. I have known Thea for 15 years. I used to be part of the Elspark CPF team and she was very involved. She supported the community forum and attended our meetings,” said Ingram.

“She had a big heart and always served people. She was also very involved with the community. Recently there was a power outage in Dinwiddie and she brought the technicians coffee.”

“I will forever cherish the moments we shared. Prinsloo was also the Dinwiddie sports club manager. We celebrated fun organising and hosting CPF fundraising events,” said Ingram.

Ingram shared her condolences with Prinsloo’s family, friends and the community as a whole.

Ekurhuleni South Darts Association (ESDA), in which Prinsloo was involved, described her as the mother of the club.

The club stated that Prinsloo’s death came with immense shock and sadness. ESDA said Prinsloo was always there for the club, going above and beyond the call of duty.

“We were family and you were the keeper of our home and you supported us to the last dart. We are reeling in shock and will miss you terribly,” ESDA stated.

The association thanked Prinsloo for her dedication to the sport and everything she had done for darts in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng and South Africa.

Following her death, numerous messages were posted on social media remembering Prinsloo.

Community members expressed their sadness, memories and condolences for Prinsloo’s family friends and loved ones.
