Night vigil to remember victims of gas tanker explosion

Come and show unwavering support to those who continue to bear the weight of their loss.

Community members are invited to join a night vigil to remember the victims of the gas tanker explosion, which happened on Christmas Eve.

The event, organised by Urban Ruins, The Humanity Foundation and the Benoni Ladies Forum, will be held on June 24 at the scene, on Hospital Road (railway bridge) in Plantation.

Attendees are advised to bring their own candles or torches to participate in this healing event that will start at 18:00 and run until 19:00.

Participants can park their vehicles on Palm Road and nearby streets, as well as the hospital parking area.

According to one of the event organisers, Pierre Marneweck from the Humanity Foundation, the night vigil will honour those who lost their lives, acknowledge the injured and support those who are still enduring the effect of that day.

The tragic event damaged properties, claimed 38 lives, left several other people injured and robbed families of their breadwinners.
