#GautengEarthquake: Watch – shaken locals share their quake stories

A resident living near the deadly gas tanker blast scene in Plantation (Boksburg) has told how she and her family were shaken as they thought it was another blast.

The Boksburg Advertiser asked a few locals to share their experiences when the 4.4 magnitude earthquake hit Ekurhuleni in the early hours of June 11.

Some of the shared comments included: “It felt like the whole house was going to collapse and I thought I was going to die. It was a very scary experience, the whole house was shaking. I was awoken from my sleep.”

Others took to social media and shared pictures and videos showing minor and serious structural damages of their properties in Ekurhuleni.

The Council for GeoScience is investigating the cause of the quake.
