The EMPD promotes four and bids farewell to veteran officer

The newly appointed superintendents will be placed in different regions of Ekurhuleni.

EMPD hosted an event in Bedfordview on March 30, where four superintendents were promoted to Chief Superintendent (Lieutenant Colonel) positions.

The department also bid farewell to its Deputy Director, Piet Van Staden who is retiring.
According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the four promoted members are experienced in law enforcement under operations and specialised services, administration, crowd management, enforcing municipal by-laws and crime prevention fields.

“Lieutenant Colonel Phumulani Makhathini comes with 27 years of experience as a law enforcer and supervisor.
“Lieutenant Colonels Innocentia Keetse, Jabulani Gebhuza and Cebisile Ximba, bag 14 to 21 years of clean service with appropriate credentials,” said Thepa.

EMPD Chief of Police Isaac Mapiyeye congratulated and commended the four members on their new appointments.
The new chief superintendents will be deployed to different regions and precincts to serve the community at large in Ekurhuleni.

Meanwhile, Thepa further explained that Van Staden was part of the team that established the then Midrand Traffic Department.
He was certified as a traffic officer in 1980 and has been with the department for more than 43 years.
When he was appointed as the Adjunct Professor, he collected numerous degrees including Clinical Psychology.
Van Staden was applauded and handed over accolades with medals by Colonel Madelaine Bloemhof and the Deputy Municipal Police Commissioner, Goodman Mzolo.
