Heidelberg man second accused in human trafficking case

The man will be back in court on April 24.

A 35-year-old man from Heidelberg is formally the second accused in a case in which a woman (38) from Margate is facing human trafficking and other related charges involving two minor girls.

One girl was aged between 13 and 14, and the other was even younger at the time of the offences.

The suspect, who was arrested on April 13, appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court today (April 21) for a formal bail application, which was not concluded and will continue on April 24.

Both the man and woman face charges of trafficking in persons, rape, conspiracy to commit a sexual offence, aiding and abetting another person to commit a sexual offence, sexual grooming of children, sexual exploitation of children and compelling or causing children to witness sexual offences.

The woman is also charged with keeping a brothel and living off the earnings of prostitution.
The offences took place between 2022 and 2023.

The woman, who is alleged to have run a brothel from a guesthouse in Boksburg, appeared in court on April 12 and the matter was postponed to June 2.
Both are remanded in custody.
