CBC matrics deliver

Fourteen of the 39 learners obtained distinctions.

The Christian Brothers’ College (CBC) class of 2022 obtained a 100% pass rate.

Fourteen of the 39 learners obtained distinctions, with Claudio Jose de Freitas achieving eight and Nikitas Markoulides seven.

Claudio Jose scored 100% in engineering and graphic design, 100% in mathematics, 93% in accounting, 90% in Afrikaans, 84% in English, 85% for life orientation, 96% in physical science and 91% in further mathematics studies.

The learner said he feels exceptionally proud of himself for obtaining eight distinctions.

“When you work hard you expect to pass well, but when it happens you completely have a different feeling – you just can’t believe that you have really done it. I passed using simple studying and practicing methods. I always wrote study notes in class and practiced a lot because most of my subjects were practical subjects. I also managed my time well.

“Matric learners need to know that it’s important to manage your time. There’s time for studying, learning, relaxing and playing and if you can master this balance you will pass,” he said.

Claudio thanked the many people who played essential roles in his matric success.

Claudio Jose de Freitas: Eight distinctions.

“Our teachers ensured we understand what they were teaching us, and my family and friends gave me the necessary support without pressuring me. I plan to study mechanical engineering because I like solving problems. Who knows, maybe I will be the one who solves the load-shedding crisis in South Africa.”

Claudio Jose’s sister, Alexandra, said she is proud of her brother.

“What he has achieved in his last year at school is remarkable. I knew he would do a good job but I didn’t expect him to do this well,” she said.

Nikitas Markoulides: Seven distinctions.

Nikitas obtained 88% in physical sciences, 91% in business studies, 85% for mathematics, 85% for life orientation, 84% for life sciences and 83% in English home language.

He expressed mixed emotions when interviewed by the Boksburg Advertiser on IEB results day (January 18).

“My efforts have finally paid off. From getting involved in extra curriculum activities and taking up all my responsibilities as a head boy, I will cherish all the moments I had at CBC.

“There are times when I struggled, especially in Afrikaans, as I am Greek so it was a bit difficult for me to understand and write Afrikaans, but I put more effort into learning the subject and I did well in it.

“I would like to give credit to my Afrikaans teacher as she helped me a lot. My plan is to pursue a medical course and become a doctor, but I have also applied for a mechanical engineering course,” said Nikitas.

His father, Dimitri, said he is ecstatic that his son did well in matric.

“I was always expecting my son to do well because he has a good work ethic. Now it’s time for him to pursue a career of his choice. I have always supported my child and believe it is important for parents to do so,” said Dimitri.

Regan Galliot: Five distinctions.

Other matric learners who did well in their final matric results are Regan Galliot and Amiras Gerasimos.

Regan obtained five distinctions (82% Afrikaans, 88% engineering, 80% life sciences, 80% mathematics and 84% physical science).

Amiras obtained four distinctions (85% accounting, 87% business studies, 87% mathematics and 85% physical science).

Amiras Gerasimos: Four distinctions.

The principal of CBC Kondia Markoulides is proud of the 100% pass rate.

“We also have an 85% bachelor’s pass rate. Our teachers and learners put in the work and the results prove this,” said Kondia.
