Man dies in Boksburg house blaze

The cause of the fire is under investigation

A man died after a fire ripped through a residential area and destroyed multiple homes near Rondebult Road in Comet in the early hours of this morning (September 13).

The charred remains were found under the rubble after emergency services responded to the fire that broke out at one of the former mine houses known as New Married Quarters in Comet.

According to City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson William Ntladi, DEMS was alerted to the fire at midnight.
When firefighters arrived they found that the double-storey building connected to four adjacent homes and multiple shacks in the backyard was engulfed in flames, with fire spreading to the other parts of the property due to it being fanned by strong winds.

“Additional crews from neighbouring fire stations, including Leon Ferreira, Germiston central, Vosloorus and Kempton Park were dispatched to the scene where they managed to bring the fire under control and subsequently extinguish it.
“The remains were removed from the scene by forensic pathologists and the scene was handed over to law enforcement units for further investigations,” said Ntladi.
