July was Mandela Month and Mandela Day (July 18).
The Advertiser quizzed young learners at Cube Schools about Mandela and our country.
Tristan Switala (8): Nelson Mandela was a great man. He was our president and liked to help others. I also now the lyrics of our national anthem and the colours of our flag.
Nate Fardell (6): I don’t know anything about Nelson Mandela or Mandela Day. I also don’t know what the Rainbow Nation is about.
Zayne Botha (12): Nelson Mandela helped a lot of people and was a good man and I know Mandela Day is about helping others. I don’t know the words of our national anthem. I usually make up my own words when I sing them.
Gabriella Campbell (7): I just know Mandela was good for our country. I also know some of the words of our national anthem and the colours of our flag.
Charlotte Babich (7): I don’t know anything about Nelson Mandela, but I know words to our national anthem because we sing it at school.
