Suspects nabbed in Jet Park for possession of unlawful firearms and ammunition

Acting station commander Lieutenant Colonel Kwena Meso and Vispol commander Lieutenant Colonel Thembi Skhosana commended the members for a job well done.

Members of Boksburg North SAPS Crime Prevention Unit arrested four suspects after being found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on the corner of Rondebult and Yaldwyn roads on July 24.

Officers include Sergeant Patrick Mohlamonyane, Sergeant Sabelo Ndlozi and Sergeant Mululeki Jozana.

According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Constable Justice Ramaube, the men in blue were conducting routine duties when they spotted a blue Toyota Corolla sedan with no registration plates.

“The officers instructed the driver of the Toyota to pull over and they searched the car. The officers then requested backup from crime prevention members Sergeant Sibusiso Shabangu, Constable Sakhile Matshaba, Constable Mlondolozi Khalipa and Constable Nkateko Hlungwani.

“They found three black pistols with serial numbers filed off, loaded with unlicensed ammunition – a total of 20 live rounds,” said Ramaube.

The suspects were in possession of house break-in implements and false registration plates. They could not give the officers satisfactory answers about the unlawful items in their possession.

Ramaube added preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects might have been linked to a series of street robberies and hijackings around Jet Park.

Furthermore, it was discovered the car belongs to the girlfriend of the 36-year-old suspect who was driving the car at the time. The car was since confiscated as it was involved in the commission of a crime.

The men are facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms, unlicensed ammunition, fraud and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
