Mandela Day: Sterilisation of animals gets underway

Boksburg SPCA held a spay day to help families who cannot afford private sterilisation rates.

On Mandela Day, 52 cats and dogs were sterilised at the Boksburg SPCA to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy.

The Boksburg SPCA collaborated with Montego Pet Nutrition representatives, Unisa students, and volunteers.

According to SPCA secretary Sue Beadon, they decided to hold a spay day to help families who cannot afford private sterilisation rates, as well as nine outreach animals.

“Not only does sterilisation benefit the animal’s health, but it also relieves a huge burden on families who don’t want a lot of kittens and puppies,” said Beadon.

Beadon expressed gratitude to Montego for partnering with them on the special day.
“Montego distributed food and educated pet owners on their products,” said Beadon.
